The Lady Knights may be made up of a younger core of players this season, but the team scored a pair of wins to start the season.
A quick start propelled STMA to a season-opening victory at home by a score of 4-1 on Thursday.
Molly Young’s goal near the halfway point of the opening 40 minutes gave the Lady Knights a 2-0 lead.
After Elk River cut into the lead with a goal, the Knights got two more goals over the course of the second half to wrap up the game for their first win of the season.
“What’s most exciting moving forward into the season is that all four goals were scored by four different people,” Head coach Megan Johnson said.
A rainy Saturday afternoon saw sophomore Kassi Schoen score five goals as the Lady Knights soundly defeated the Moorhead Spuds 7-2.
Moorhead’s Olivia Watson scored both of the Spuds’ goals on the afternoon. Schoen’s big game, however, sent the Knights to a second consecutive win over a section opponent and a 2-0 start overall.
The Lady Knights played East Ridge on Monday night and Park of Cottage Grove on Tuesday night. STMA returns to action September 7 against North Branch.
