Marlys Timm returned from the recent World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament in St. George, Utah feeling quite respected.

The member of the Rockford Ringers Horseshoe Pitching Club not only won her 14-member Class F, but was named Sanctioned League Director of the Year at the Hall of Fame Awards Banquet.

“There were 16 in my class but two others had dropped out due to health concerns,” said Timm. “I won $500 for first place, plus a trophy and World Class Champion patch.”

Timm entered the world tournament with a ringer average of 34.39. The highest entry was at 38.12. Marlys won the title by going 12-1, posting a ringer average of 39.62. The second place finisher shot 41.15 percent but had a 10-3 record. Timm had two games with a high of 22 ringers out of 40 shoes for 55 percent and had three games with a low of 13 ringers.

This was the 13th World tournament for Marlys and her husband Marv since joining the Rockford club in 1989. Marlys finished second in Ainsworth Nebraska in 1998, was first in Bismarck, North Dakota in 2000 and second in Topeka, Kansas in 2015. She placed “in the money” in the top six at numerous events.
