STMA Coaches Association recently named the third annual male and female student Athletes of the Year.
The nominees for this award were nominated by their coaches for outstanding achievements in athletics, for demonstrating good character and leadership, and for quality work in the classroom.
One male and female winner was selected by a committee of coaches, administration and teachers. To be nominated students must have played multiple sports for multiple years or received All-State recognition, not be on the ineligible list, demonstrated excellence in their respective sports and in the classroom, showed good sportsmanship and character in athletics, at school, and in the community, demonstrated commitment and high work ethic, and the nominee must be a senior.
The 2017 STMA Student Athlete of the Year finalists include Anna Keefer (track and field & gymnastics); Mackenzie Langdok (soccer); Lizzy Heil (cross country, basketball, and track & field); Rae Johnson (basketball); Travis Brown (football, basketball and baseball); Max Lezer (swim & dive); Jack Kelly (hockey &baseball); and Jake Allar (wrestling).
This year’s STMA Female Student-Athlete of the Year is Lizzy Heil. This year’s STMA Male Student-Athlete of the Year is Jack Kelly. Student Athlete of the Year winners will receive a $500 scholarship and trophy from the STMA Coaches Association and the nominees will receive $250 each.
