An evening of arts and smarts at RMS-CES

Rockford Middle School celebrated the creativity of its students at the 2017 Arts and Academics Showcase. The night featured non-stop performances by all bands and choirs (like the 8th grade choir pictured here), readings and an open mic, presentations and many pop-up art galleries. (Sun staff photo by Alaina Rooker) The Ash Street gallery showcased walls of student work, with interactive links so viewers could access videotaped artist statements. Pictured in the foreground is eighth-grader Sydney Christensen’s ‘Ostrich Confetti’ (Sun staff photo by Alaina Rooker) RMS-CES students Maggie (11) and Robbie Johnson (7) sell Tied to the Cause bracelets near the book fair for their friend Kate Kariniemi. Half of sales for the bracelets went to the Masaai women who made the bracelets, and half towards building an orphanage in Kenya. More information can be found at www.leesisters.org. The team is challenged to program a robot into completing certain tasks. The Crew is funded through donations and grants and will gear up again starting late August.
