The Osseo boys’ basketball team beat Roseville 71-42 in a Section 5 first round game March 7.

Four Orioles scored in double figures. Emmette Paige Jr. led with 16 points, Maurice Nelson had 14, Zach Theisen and Mar Mar Hughes 13 each and John Bezdicek 7. Osseo, seeded third, played in the section semifinal against second-seeded Park Center March 14. The winner advances to the section championship game at 7 p.m. at Rogers Friday, March 17.

The Orioles are playing their best ball at the right time. Theisen and Nelson have been the offensive leaders and they have great senior leadership from captains Mar Mar Hughes, John Bezdicek, and Matt Bezdicek.

“These three have been providing valuable minutes and doing a lot of the little things that don’t get noticed in the box scores,” Osseo coach Tim Theisen said. “They are in the tops of many statistical categories.”

Matt Bezdicek broke his left hand three weeks ago and has missed six games. Coach Theisen hopes to have him back by the region semi-finals.

Also making great contributions are senior posts Alex Sinnen and Jazz Boker.

“They have been coming through with offensive production and rebounding strengths for the Orioles,” Coach Theisen said.
