The Osseo Police Department and Osseo community are happy that an incident Thursday, Dec. 1, was only a misunderstanding.
According to police, around 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 1, a resident reported to police that her daughter was approached by a man in a dark-blue minivan near the intersection of Second Street N.E. and Fourth Avenue N.E. Police said, “They allegedly asked the girl if she needed a ride.”
At the point of the call to police, the Osseo Police Department urged residents and community members to be on the lookout for a dark-blue minivan. Anyone that saw anything suspicious was advised to call 911, and anyone with information about the incident was asked to the Osseo Police Department.
Osseo Police gave an update the morning of Friday, Dec. 2. The department said the report turned out to be a misunderstanding.
“On Thursday morning, an Osseo student missed the bus,” Osseo Police said. “Staff from American Transportation in Maple Grove sent Van #51, a dark-blue van with white lettering on the rear side windows, to pick up the student. The van mistakenly approached the wrong student to offer a ride to school.”
The department added that the safety of children is it’s number one priority. Adding that the department wanted to get the message out to the public to ensure that residents have their eyes open at all times to keep the community safe.
