Developer: ‘We’re trying to meet the needs of the community’
By the end of this year, Rockford residents will have a bar and grill restaurant to visit on Main Street.
The last Rockford City Council approved a proposal from Loretto’s Allen Max Commercial Development to build a 12,000-square-foot facility on Main Street’s lumberyard property.
The property borders Hwy. 55 and the Crow River and is planned to be named Tavern on the Crow.
There will be three parts to this development: a family-style bar and grill restaurant, a 300-person event center, and an additional 3,000 square feet of commercial retail space.
The exterior design will feature a combination of brick siding with log timbers. An outdoor patio will face the river.
“It’s a great looking design,” said Councilor Rick Martinson.
In addition to having a new restaurant in the city, this development will help pay for the Main Street redevelopment project occurring this summer.
“The increase in property values based on the construction here would be above the $980,000 market value that we need to have the downtown project be cash neutral,” City Administrator Dan Madsen said.
Tom Belanger, owner of Allen Max Commercial, said that this area in Rockford fits well with his company’s long-term plan.
“We already own a nearby property, where we will be putting 90 to 100 units for assisted senior living,” he said. “This location will help with construction costs and mobilization.”
In addition, Belanger noted that Rockford is a midpoint between Plymouth and Buffalo. Due to its location, the Tavern on the Crow will provide an easy stopping point for Hwy. 55 travelers. It will also be a place for residents to relax alongside the river.
“We’re trying to meet the needs of the community,” Belanger added.
Allen Max Commercial hopes to have the Tavern on the Crow ready to open by October.
Belanger notes that the restaurant will have one of the only outdoor seating areas along the river in Rockford, and that the company is considering building volleyball courts outside the restaurant as well.
The city is now in the early planning stages for the Tavern on the Crow with Allen Max Commercial to make this vision a reality.
City staff indicated that Allen Max Commercial is shooting to begin construction by the end of July. Belanger notes that his hope is to start the process even sooner.
