Highlights of Hanover Heritage Fest

Visitors flocked into town Saturday, Aug. 2, for the 10th annual Hanover Harvest Festival, featuring a 5K and children’s run, kids activities, demonstrations, free music, a bustling marketplace, the Antique Car Show, a parade with both Rockford and Buffalo high school bands participating, a royalty coronation, a Texas Hold’em tournament and fireworks.

June rains left the Crow River too high for the Duck Drop event. Instead of watching colored ducks floating under the historic bridge, visitors witnessed Plan B, floating ducks in a portable basin.

A parade highlight was the Hanover Historical Society’s “Down on the Farm” float, pulled by a vintage tractor driven by Joe Kaul. Prominent on the float was farmer Mike Kehn and his family’s pot belly pig, Kosher, who “pigged” out on corn on the cob throughout the parade.

At the Texas Hold’em tournament in the afternoon, “chopped” joint winners, sharing the $100 top prize, were Bob Weber and Shana Roberts. Placing third was Dustin Roberts.

New royalty were crowned to represent Hanover in the coming year. The new Miss Hanover, crowned by outgoing queen Krystle Brown, is Mallory Gutknecht. Outgoing Princess Emma Gutknecht crowned new Princess Mackenzie Malewicki.
