Mikayla Erickson will represent Rockford in the Friday, July 25, competition for the crown of Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes.

The daughter of Andrea and Mike Erickson, she is a 2013 Rockford Senior Ambassador. She will compete against 53 other young women from across Minnesota.

A 2014 Rockford High School graduate, Erickson is a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to attend Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. Her goal is to earn a medical degree and then practice pediatrics.

Erickson has participated in gymnastics since she was 5 and served as a captain of the Rockford gymnastics team since she was a freshman. She went to the state high school tournament on balance beam as a junior and senior. She continues to coach children at the Rockford Gymnastics Club.

She also has volunteered for weeklong mission trips to assist people in other communities.

“Good luck at Aquatennial, Mikayla. We are so proud of you,” said Heather Tody, on behalf of the Rockford River Days Committee.
