Election season is now upon the residents of Champlin and Dayton. Next week marks the beginning of when interested individuals may file for office in Champlin.
Residents of Champlin interested in running for city council positions can file Affidavits of Candidacy between Tuesday, July 29 and Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 5 p.m. Candidates that have filed may withdraw up until Thursday, Aug. 14, at 5 p.m.
The general election will be Tuesday, Nov. 4. Residents will be able to vote for their city election, as well as other state and federal government elections between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Absentee balloting begins Friday, Sept. 19, for the general election.
Minnesota Voter Registration Applications are available at Champlin City Hall.
Residents may register to vote online at mnvotes.org.
In Champlin, there are three positions on the city council that will be vacant at the end of the year. All terms will begin January 2015.
• Mayor — This is a two-year term currently held by Mayor ArMand Nelson.
• Two council member seats — These are four-year terms currently held by Ryan Karasek (Ward 1) and Eric Johnson (Ward 2).
Affidavits of Candidacy, filing fee and statement of economic interest are required to be completed with the Deputy City Clerk. Business hours at Champlin City Hall are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Candidates must be eligible voters, be 21 years of age by assuming office and maintained a residence in the district where they reside 30 days prior to the election.
The City of Champlin’s website (www.ci.champlin.mn.us) has the voter registration application as well as other important election information on their home page under “Election Information.”
The city of Dayton also has three positions up at the end of the year. All terms will begin January 2015. Filing for these positions ended June 3.
• Mayor — This is a two-year term currently being held by Mayor Tim McNeil.
• Two council member seats — These are four-year terms currently held by Anne Ziebel and Rick Shermer.
Candidates that have filed for Council seats include Anne Ziebel, Rick Shermer, Dennis Fisher and Stephen C. Johnson.
