SUN PRESS NEWSPAPERS

A week earlier, the Rockford River Bandits were working on picking up the offense. This week the amateur baseball team will stress defense after allowing 43 runs in three recent games.

Last week Rockford lost to Dassel-Cokato 17-4, Hutchinson 15-5 and Maple Plain 11-10 in a game stretched over two days.

The teams were tied at 10 in the eighth inning July 9 when darkness forced postponement until Sunday when the game resumed and Maple Plain pulled out an 11-10 win in 11 innings. The winning run scored on a balk.

“We were short of pitchers and healthy players,” said acting manager Cole Hansen. Manager Ryan Rassatt was gone coaching his son’s baseball team.

Rockford travels to face Rogers, 4 p.m. Saturday, July 19. The River Bandits will face Montrose at Waverly Sunday, July 20.
