The season came to a close for more girls fastpitch teams playing for the Rockford Area Athletic Association.
The U10 Green squad captured second place at the tournament in St. Michael. Rockford’s U12 fastpitch team competed at the state tournament in the C division.
The Green team played strong defense and had hot bats during the East Wright County year-end tournament in St. Michael. Unfortunately, the bats were quiet in the title game, losing to Hanover 3-2.
Shellie Virnig and Breann Blanchard led the offense going 5 for 5. Ella Andrews had a great day on the mound, pitching eight of the 12 innings for the day.
Rockford also had great efforts on the mound from Audrey Heidgerken, Maggie Johnson, and Bel Wellman. Defensive highlights included a quick snag on a hard hit ball at shortstop by Shellie Virnig.
Right fielder Dayne Lowe threw out the runner at first base and Breann Blanchard made a tough foul ball catch at first base.
Rockford 10U Green finishes the season with a 17-3-1 record. Coach Brenda Blanchard said, “I couldn’t be more proud of the girls. Skills and confidence in their abilities improved tremendously over the season.”
In other games at the tourney, Rockford defeated STMA Yellow 6-2, STMA Blue 6-1 and Delano 3 6-1.
