Maple Grove volleyball standout Lauren Bright had a quite a trip to Orlando in June. Not only did she get to Mickey Mouse, Bright became a national champion when her Northern Lights 16-2 team won the AAU Nationals. And she was named All-American.

“It was definitely the highlight of my entire volleyball and athletic career in general,” said Bright, a middle hitter. “The championship game itself was an interesting experience because a huge crowd of Northern Lights players was in the stands cheering us on. At the end of the match we all ran to the center of the court in celebration. After we received our trophy and took a picture with Mickey Mouse.”

Then the announcer called out names of All American and MVP players for the tournament and Bright was honored with one of the 10 All American awards.

“I know everyone on my team was deserving of the award,” said Bright.

Bright then completed a hectic June by playing with her team in the Junior Olympics National Tournament in Minneapolis. She now sets sight on having a strong junior season for the Crimson.
