Aaron Lindquist, who coached the Elk River boys to a state tournament trip last year, will be coaching the Rogers girls this year, after securing a faculty position at RHS.

Ryan Sorensen will succeed Lindquist as Elk boys coach. (See separate story.)

Lindquist, who started teaching Economics at RHS last year, fills the vacancy left when Holly Sutton resigned to take a post at Winona State.

Lindquist was as co-head coach with Tom Olson before becoming solo head coach last year when Olson resigned. His Elks had a 13-4-3 record and won the Section 8AA title.

All four Rogers girls coaches have been Elk alums: Adam Noll, Amy Cornelius, Sutton and now Lindquist.

Lindquist told the Star News it was a “tough decision” to leave the Elks but was “very excited” to join the Rogers program, adding that he’s currently coaching TRSA U16 and U17 girls summer teams that include players from Rogers, Elk River and other area schools.
