Teaching students how to contribute to community is one important aspect of education at Osseo Area Schools. One of the ways that goal manifests itself at Maple Grove Junior High is through the H2O For Life project.
H2O for Life connects schools in the United States with schools in developing countries to complete WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) in schools projects.
Students and staff participating in Maple Grove Junior High’s H2O for Life’s service organization conducted fundraisers throughout the year to raise more than $3,800 to provide a fresh water well and sanitary facilities for students at Oteteen Primary School in western Uganda.
Learning about how children in Uganda have to retrieve their own water from polluted ponds and streams every single day and risk contracting water-borne diseases has opened the eyes of many H2O For Life participants to the many things Americans take for granted in as basic elements of life but in many other countries are true luxuries.
Watching how their contributions have transformed these students’ lives by providing fresh, clean drinking water has had a profound impact on Maple Grove Junior High’s students as they realize their ability to help another group of students halfway around the world.
Maple Grove Junior High recently received a certificate of recognition from the H2O For Life organization thanking them for the receipt of the funds raised this year.
