Thursday morning, July 10, The Choo Choo Bob Show comes to the Town Green with his pals, talking about trains and having all kinds of fun. Bring the whole family and watch the tradition — the Pierre Bottineau Parade. With over 100 entries in the parade, people will see creative units with lots of music, entertainment and, of course, free candy. Remember to keep children safe by not having them run out into the street for the candy. Participants have been instructed to hand candy to parade watchers.
Friday brings shared family time at Cool Ray Open Skate in the ice arena at the Maple Grove Community Center. Skate to Beach Boy sounds and remember, all skaters wearing sunglasses pay only $2. Return to the Town Green for competition of those darling baby racers in the Diaper Derby. This event is pure fun and entertainment for the adults, too. Next in the line-up of entertainment and competition is the Kid’s Parade. Viewers will be surprised by the imaginative creations of decorated bikes, trikes, wagons and entertaining costumes. No pre-registration is required. Following the Kids’ Parade, pull up lawn chairs to watch the fun upbeat and thoroughly entertaining musical talents of Zinghoppers. As the sun sets, the movie screen goes up for “Frozen.” Snacks will be available for purchase at the concession stand.
There’s fun from morning till night Saturday, July 12. Start the morning with a good workout by running or walking in the Kids’ Fun Run. That’s on the trail around North Arbor Lake, on the east side of Main Street across from the Maple Grove Government Center. Brush up on those fishing skills at the fishing pier on Weaver Lake while the members of the Weaver Lake Conservation Association host a Fishing Clinic. Poles and bait are provided.
The rest of the day has great children’s entertainment beginning in the morning with a musical performance from the Alphabits. Everyone loves a beach party with follow-along dances and that all happens with Bob the Beachcomber. In the afternoon check out the amazing high-flying tricks performed at the Rich Weiber’s Bicycle Stunt Show. There is a full line of local youth talent presented at the Town Green with World TaeKwonDo Academy, Dancin’ On Broadway, Duct Tape Fashion Show. Families and folks of all ages will enjoy the comedy, drama and high-energy production of Fam Jam. Stop by and enjoy the Big Truck Show and see tires bigger than most kids. Don’t forget to check out the amazing cars on display at the Classic Car Show on the Main Street. For a cool, quiet activity stop by the Maple Grove Library Book Sale.
There is still time for another family project. Build a vessel to hold a 24 case of soda and not get wet while travelling down the Lazy River at the community center outdoor pool. That’s the Keep a Boat a Float contest and someone could win the $50 prize on Saturday afternoon.
The community center hosts the Business Expo with many handouts, giveaways and interactive visits to a superb variety of businesses and organizations. Take a trip through the Maple Maze or relax and enjoy the Kid’s Room with crafts and stories.
Put on that builder’s hat and grab tools at the Make and Take a Wood Project From Home Depot or build a Model Car. Are their kids that like to play in the sand? Hunt for the buried Culver coins in the Coin Hunt. Be the first to shout Bingo in the Pavilion. There are games galore like hula hoop, giraffe bell ring, obstacle course, miniature golf, pop ring toss, soccer kick and more. Don’t miss the Petting Zoo or giddy-up for a Pony Ride. It’s always fun to bounce around on one of the great inflatable rides, too. (remember to bring your socks). Dress up like a pirate, princess or clown and take a crazy photo at Photo Booth Fun.
Wander over to the Main Street Art Fair on Saturday or Sunday and enjoy the hands-on experience at the Maple Grove Art Center Kids’ Art.
Lots of good food awaits kids all day long and they will want to stay into the evening for the spectacular Fireworks display.
