Defense may win championships, but high-powered offense certainly doesn’t hurt. Champlin Park’s girls lacrosse team piled up 47 goals in three Section 7 tournament games on May 28 through June 4. They capped it with a 12-10 victory over Coon Rapids for the title on Wednesday, June 4, at Irondale High School. “We took care of the ball in the middle of the field with the draws and ground balls in the middle of the field,” Rebels coach Brian Finnvik said. Tara Dalman, Marjie McNamara, Delaney Everett, Maddie Scheinost and Hanna Crymble each scored two goals in the victory. Brook Auer assisted on two of the scores. Kelsey Spoden stopped ten shots in goal. “The girls played well in the tight game and handled the pressure well,” Finnvik said. “The biggest issue we had was the heat.” Previous opponents felt the offensive heat from the Rebels in the last two rounds of the section tournament. Champlin Park beat Forest Lake in the semifinals 18-6 on May 30 and crushed Andover 17-0 on May 28. Crymble scored a hat trick in each game, and Everett posted one in the rout over the Huskies. Scheinost and McNamara each scored five goals in the win against the Rangers. Katie Elder and Demey Everett posted two goals apiece for the semifinal win, and Sam Nolan added a goal. Against Andover, four different Rebels scored pairs of goals. Auer, Demey Everett, Elder and Scheinost all netted goals twice against the Huskies. The title run completed the second-consecutive section championship season for the Rebels. Contact Matthew Davis at matthew.davis@ecm-inc.com
