VFW burger, steak fry nights
JUNE 6 – 28 — The Heinzen-Ditter Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will offer burger and steak fry nights to the public at the VFW clubhouse on Hamel Road at Brockton Lane (on the Hamel/ Plymouth border). Diners can eat in or take out from 5 to 7 p.m. Burger nights are scheduled for Fridays on June 6, 13, 20 and 27. The next steak fry is Saturday, June 28.
Rockford High School
JUNE 5 — Rockford High School will its 97th Annual Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, June 5, at 7 p.m. in the Rockford Community Center. The Rockford High School Band and A Cappella Choir will also be giving performances.
JUNE 5 – The Rockford Ambassador Program is accepting applications for the Junior and Senior Ambassador Programs. The Senior Program is open to girls 17 to 22 years old living in Rockford or attending Rockford High School. The Junior Program is open to girls entering 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades in the fall who live in Rockford or attend the Rockford Schools.

St. George rummage sale
JUNE 5, 6 — St. George Catholic Church, 133 N. Brown Road, Long Lake will host it’s annual rummage sale on Thursday, June 5 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, June 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check out the “Better Goods” room. Friday is Bag Day at $4 per bag, and large items and “better goods” are half price. Five large rooms will be full of bargains, and items also will be displayed outdoors. JUNE 6 – A community market will be open on Fridays between 3 and 7 p.m. at the Rockford Mall parking lot (inside in bad weather) through Oct. 17. Look for fresh farm produce, local products like honey and syrup, crafts, jewelry and a wide assortment of items. The fee for vendors is $5 per date, or $30 for the season. JUNE 7 — Registration is open for the USAT licensed Liberty Triathlon scheduled for Saturday, June 7 at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve in Rockford. The event will begin with the Long Course at 7:30 am; Olympic Course participants will begin at 8 a.m. Each participant will receive a participant shirt and a chance to win a valuable Gear West Bike and Tri Gear Bag.Over 500 participants are anticipated for the event. Old Time Baseball
JUNE 8 — Come and see a baseball game played as it was in the 1860s. St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church & School was founded in 1864 and is inviting the community to watch a “vintage” baseball game in celebration of its 150th Anniversary. The historic St. Croix Team with their vintage uniforms will verse Team St. John’s Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church Ball Field, 9141 County Road 101 in Corcoran. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, watch some real old time baseball with 1860s rules, and enjoy some pie and ice cream following the game. Donations will be taken for the Wounded Warriors Project. JUNE 9 — Readers, and future readers, age 0 to 18 are invited to visit the Rockford Public Library on Monday, June 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. for an ice cream social, the opportunity to learn about summer reading programs, a chance to meet Rockford Royalty and craft making. The Rockford Ambassador Program, with junior and senior positions opening up this summer, is now accepting applications.

JUNE 12 — Jeffrey Vinokur, also known as the Dancing Scientist, will present a program for families and teens at the St. Michael Public Library Thursday, June 12, 7 to 7:45 p.m. Vinokur has an M.S. in Biochemistry and specializes in demonstrating and explaining science through fast-paced, inspirational shows for children. He visits schools across the country and has also appeared on NBC’s Today Show, the Discovery Show, and other nationally televised programs (where he also loves to demonstrate his dancing skills).
