The Osseo softball team capped a fine regular season with a 13-4 rout of host Armstrong May 14.
Osseo, with a very young team with only two seniors, finished 12-6 overall and 10-4 and in third place in the Northwest Suburban Conference, trailing only No. 1 Maple Grove and No. 2 Elk River.
The Orioles pounded out 16 hits as Taylor Bridgeman, Laine Ruska, Faith Lovcik and Hayley Swanson each had three hits. Lovcik had three RBI’s, Ruska and Bridgeman each had two. Courtney Calkins endured five Osseo errors and registered another win. She gave up no earned runs, allowed just two hits, struck out six to record her ninth victory of the season.
Earlier in the week the Orioles jumped out right out of the gates scoring two runs courtesy of an Ashley Sis RBI single and a bases loaded walk scoring Calkins and held on to beat a scrappy Andover Huskies team. In a rain soaked game, Calkins only gave up one earned run, walked only three, but struck out seven. Sis led the way at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Allison Tullberg, Calkins had the other RBIs.
The Orioles now set sight on the Section 5 Tournament this week. Osseo is seeded fifth in the Section 5 Tournament and open May 20 at home against No. 12 Coon Rapids. The next round is May 21 at No, 4 Irondale. The semifinals are May 27 at Rice Creek Park in Shoreview and the championship games are May 29 at Rice Creek.
The Orioles are hoping for a better showing than last season when they lost to Champlin Park in the opening round.
