Osseo’s Kelli Auer delivered the game-winning hit and Courtney Calkins pitched a shutout as the Osseo Orioles nipped Park Center under the lights April 21 on their home fields.
The lights were installed last spring and allowed the Orioles to host many later afternoon games. This game started at 7:15 p.m. and many families were on hand. It got a bit chilly near the end but fans, especially Osseo fans, enjoyed a gem.
Calkins and Park Center Jill Rosby locked up in a pitching duel but the Orioles capitalized on one of the few walks Rosby gave up and Auer came through in the bottom of the second. With runners on second and first, Auer singled through first and second to score Calkins from second.
One run was all Calkins needed on this night as she scattered six hits and struck out eight and received several stellar plays from the Osseo defense. She was in trouble once when PC had runners on second and third with 1 out in the top of the sixth but the Pirates could not score the tying run.
Rosby was just as tough and held Osseo to just three hits but was the tough-luck loser.
The 3-1 Orioles next hosted Centennial on April 30.
