Two students from Osseo Area Learning Center earned top 10 finishes at the 2014 MN Association of Alternative Success, Teamwork, Achievement, Recognition & Self-Esteem (MAAP STARS) Student Spring Events Conference.
Mai Moua earned a fifth place finish in Career Portfolio and Dallas Letellier earned seventh place in Public Speaking. Collectively, OALC students earned 17 Gold ribbons, signifying achievement of 90 percent or higher in their respective category.
MAAP STARS is a broad-based vocational youth program for students attending alternative schools in Minnesota. Students can compete in 16 different events. Categories include: Workplace Relations, Parent Decision Making, Management Decision Making, Video Promotion, Art Display, Employment Interview and more. The events are designed to focus on skills needed for today’s workplace, with the emphasis on teamwork and problem solving.
More than 300 students from a total of 31 alternative schools from across the state participated in the competition. In some event categories there were up to 100 contestants competing.
