Town Hall Forum

APRIL 17 — There will be an emergency Town Hall Forum Thursday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. at North Hennepin Community College, 7411 85th Ave. N. in Brooklyn Park. The topic will be “Keep Heroin Out of Hennepin County.” Speakers include Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek, U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger, DEA Special Agent Jack Riley, Sen. Chris Eaton, Brooklyn Park Police Chief Craig Enevoldsen, Brooklyn Center Police Chief Kevin Benner, Dr. Joseph Lee of the Hazelden Betty Ford Founation and Adam Pederson of MN Adult and Teen Challenge. APRIL 18 — The Hamel Veterans of Foreign Wars Post will offer a Friday fish fry to the public during Lent on April 18 at the VFW clubhouse, 19020 Hamel Rd., Plymouth. Easter Egg Hunt

April 19 – The Hamel Lions Club will host an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19 at the Hamel Community Building (320 Mill Dr.) with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. (for games, face painting, prizes and pictures with the Easter Bunny, refreshments for all), and the hunt starting promptly at 1 p.m. This is a free event for children up to age 10. “Golden Egg” prizes include bicycles, savings bonds and more.

Corcoran Easter egg hunt

APRIL 19 —  Corcoran’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be conducted rain or shine, at Corcoran City Ball fields at 20200 County Rd. 50 Saturday, April 19, beginning at 10 a.m. sharp. Get there early to allow time to park and get in place. The hunt is geared for ages ten and under, with separate areas for the different age groups. Find a prize egg and win one of several larger prizes. This event is outdoors so dress accordingly. Be sure to come with a bag or basket in hand to collect all the treats and prize eggs. Bring cameras too, as the Easter Bunny will be there.

APRIL 24 — The West Hennepin Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Business and Job Expo 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Independence City Hall, 1920 County Road 90. Businesses looking to grow or find qualified talented workforce are encouraged to exhibit. Area residents looking for employment or wanting to network are welcome to attend. Admission is free. Rogers Book Sale 

APRIL 24 THROUGH 26 — The Friends of the Rogers Library will host a Used Book Sale Thursday, April 24, from 5 to 8 p.m.; Friday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise funds for the Rogers Library, 21300 John Milless Drive. The sale will be at the library. Most items priced at $1 or less. Bag sale on Saturday from 1 to 3.

Crisis Nursery

APRIL 25 — The 16th Annual Spring Fundraiser for the Crisis Nursery serving Wright County is Friday, April 25, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Buffalo Civic Center. Enjoy a catered BBQ Buffet from 6 to 7:30 that is catered by Red’s of Montrose, music, raffles, silent auction and the live auction takes place at 7:30 where we will be auctioning off some “interesting” items and having fun with the audience. Cost for the evening remains at $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Sponsorships of $100 and up provide free tickets to the event. To order tickets, donate an auction item, or for more information, contact Jill Gatzke at the Crisis Nursery Office at 271-1674. Tickets are also available at BJ’s Deli in Buffalo or from any committee member. This special event is helping to raise awareness of April as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month. The sole purpose of the Crisis Nursery program is to help families before child abuse or neglect happens.

Lions Chevy dinner

APRIL 25 — The Corcoran Lions are selling tickets for the Lions Chevy dinner, set for Friday, April 25 at Rush Creek Golf Club, 7801 County Road 101, Maple Grove. A 6 p.m. social hour will be followed a 7 p.m. dinner. Top prize in the raffle will be $1,000. Purchase tickets from any Lions member or call Tim Holmquist at 612-804-8146. Cost is $100 per couple.

Beebe Lake Fundraiser

APRIL 26 — The Beebe Lake Improvement Association (BLIA) and Cash Wise Liquor are co-hosting the sixth Annual Beebe Lake Beer & Wine Tasting Fundraiser & Silent Auction Saturday, April 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the St. Michael City Center, 11800 Town Center Dr. NE, St. Michael. Tickets are $25/person, which includes beer/wine tasting and light appetizers. The BLIA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health of Beebe Lake for all community users by managing invasive aquatic species, improving lake water quality and providing supplemental walleye stocking. Musical Variety Show

APRIL 26 — There will be a musical variety show on Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Our Fathers Lutheran Church, 3903 Gilbert Ave. SE, Rockford (just north of Highway 55, going west from town).

Amazing local talent will be featured. All are welcome to this free event; free will donations will help get important equipment to Tanzania, East Africa in time for the corn harvest. Tasty African flavored treats will be on sale.

Read to a Dog  

APRIL 26 — ON Saturday, April 26, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Rockford Public Library. Kirk, a 5 -year old Farm Collie who loves to have school age readers stop by and read him a book, will be on hand. He has achieved his AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate and is a great friend for young readers to share with.  Bring your favorite book or pick one out when you get to the library.

Skating show

APRIL 27 — Buffalo Figure Skating Club Spring Show, “Skating Around the World” is Sunday, April 27, 2 to 3:30 p.m., open skate following from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Buffalo Civic Center. Admission $5, concession stand and skate rentals available. Silent auction.

Rockford Ringers 

Spring Meeting

APRIL 29 —The Rockford Ringers will hold it’s spring meeting on Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. at Riverside Park (8220 Elm St.).Anyone interested in pitching horseshoes this season should attend the meeting.

The group generally pitches 10 weeks beginning in May. Leagues meet on Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings.

It’s Just Coffee

APRIL 29 — Come meet your neighbors, share a cup of coffee and talk. Bring a friend and join in the fun. It’s Just Coffee meets the last Tuesday of every month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Your memories of Greenfield History are always welcome as this is also the home of The Greenfield Historical Society.
