Maple Grove man arrested for solicitation of a child over the Internet

A Maple Grove resident was arrested April 3 in Breckenridge, Minn., after an undercover police sting.

German Raymundo Rojas Jr., 25, was charged with felony solicitation of a child to engage in sexual conduct. He is accused of soliciting someone he thought was a child to engage in sexual conduct.

According to reports, an undercover officer with the Breckenridge Police Department posed on a website as a mother who had a 14-year-old daughter. The officer was contacted on the website Feb. 25 by Rojas. The person identified himself as “Ray” from Maple Grove. Between Feb. 25 and April 3, he allegedly engaged in Internet conversations with the undercover officer regarding having sex with what he believed to be the woman’s 14-year-old daughter.

Published reports state the officer learned the defendant’s name and date of birth through multiple text messages.

The criminal complaint states the Rojas engaged in text conversations with the supposed 14-year-old girl, and it was arranged that on April 3, the defendant would travel to Breckenridge to have sex with the juvenile.

Rojas was arrested April 3 by Breckenridge Police and Southeast Multi-County Agency task force agents. Reports state he gave a taped Mirandized statement in which he indicated that he came to Breckenridge to have a sexual relationship with a girl who he knew to be 14 years old.

An initial court appearance for Rojas is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, in Wilkin County Court.

The maximum penalty for the felony charge is three years imprisonment and/or a $5,000 fine.
