Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated event that highlights the importance of trees to the environment. National Arbor Day is celebrated each year on the last Friday of April. Minnesota also celebrates Arbor Day on the last Friday in April, while individual cities celebrate on a day of their choosing.
Maple Grove’s annual Arbor Day event will be Saturday, May 3, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Maple Grove Community Center, 12951 Weaver Lake Road.
The Arbor Committee has arranged fun and educational activities for all ages and interests.
The Splatter Sisters will put on an environmental show. The University of Minnesota Raptor Center will also present a show. Or check out a wood carving display.
Try a hand at building a bird feeder.
There will be free tree seedlings for those attending the Arbor Day event, while supplies last. Take part in a raffle drawing for free trees. There will also be free flower pots and seeds available.
Visit with Smokey the Bear and Emerald Ash Borer.
People can get information on: Emerald Ash Borer, Buckthorn, tree and garden advice from Master Gardeners and Tree Care Advisors, and a tree inventory volunteer booth.
