Rockford has three players selected to play in the first boys all-star basketball game between the Central Minnesota and Granite Ridge conferences, 8 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at Pierz High School.
Rockets represented are seniors Brock Deering, Nick Tully and Brendon Schumacher.
The girls play at 6 p.m. Rockford’s Jordan Weeding and Abby Botten were selected but decided to pass and focus on track.
Players were picked by a panel of head coaches from each conference.
Rockets run at elite meet
Rockford track coach Chad Robran took some of his top track and field athletes to compete in the St. Thomas University elite indoor invite Wednesday.
“They did great, representing Rockford very well going against an elite field of
runners,” said Robran. “Many runners were from bigger schools.”
Robran said the highlight was Erik Olson winning the pole vault in his division and was second overall. For the girls, Jordan Weeding placed third in the hurdles and fourth in the high jump in the senior division.
Abby Botten was second overall in the mile and first in the senior division.
Rockford will play host to an indoor time trial event, 4 p.m. Saturday, April 8 in the field house. Teams also entered include Washburn,
Dassel-Cokato and Maple Lake.
“We are excited to see how we compare to these teams who are outside the conference,” adds Robran.
RAAA collects equipment
As one of its community service projects, the Rockford Area Athletic Association (RAAA) is collecting new and gently used sports equipment and shoes to disperse locally to families.
The program is designed to help those who are unable to participate in organized sports due to the cost of equipment. It will also help Uganda through Make a Difference International, Inc. (www.madinc.org.)
