In anticipation of waiting for the weather to warm up, the Champlin Park Rebels track and field teams held an intra-team scrimmage on Wednesday, March 26.
“We’re able to do some of the field events that other teams are not able to do [indoors] because of our facility,” Rebels coach Mark O’Neill said.
The schools’ fieldhouse provided adequate space for more than 100 athletes between the boys and girls teams to compete both track and field events. Getting meet experience helps both teams as the girls have a young team, and the boys graduated key seniors from 2013.
“They get a little bit of a feel for what a meet feels like,” O’Neill said.
With the ground still frozen and cooler temperatures on the way, the first few outdoor meets will likely all be postponed.
“It looks like we’re going to have to wait until next week at the earliest to see if we can run against somebody else,” O’Neill said.
