Heinen, a husband, father, and grandfather, left the world to begin eternal life with Jesus immediately following the blessing by Rev. Kevin Magner at home Thursday, March 6, 2014, with many of his loved one’s present. He was born Jan. 18, 1938.

He attended St. John’s Preparatory School and graduated from St. Michael High School. All through those early years he worked at Heinen & Mason, Inc., with his father John Sr. and Don Mason (brother-in-law), until one day becoming president of the company. Heinen’s first started in 1899 as a general hardware and merchandise store in Rogers. John Sr. brought the company to Osseo in the 1930s and the store became a farm/International Harvester franchise.

Heinen was at the company for 40 years until he retired and was proud to point out that his business was run with honesty, integrity and lots of humor — just as his grandfather and dad did before him.

Heinen brought Polaris Snowmobiles to the company in 1963 along with sales, service and parts. Polaris was the highlight of the business for 30 years. And he loved being a part of the Polaris team, winning many awards over the years, his family said.

He was the third generation of the Heinen family to own and run the company, which continues to thrive today through his son Paul Heinen.

Heinen is preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and John Heinen Sr.; sisters, Marce Ryan and Anella Mason; and baby granddaughter, Grace Westgaard Heinen.

He will be deeply missed by wife, Maryanne of nearly 50 years; son, John (wife Ann Marie) of North Dakota and children Alex of Conn., son, Brother Matthew, L.C. of Rome, Andrew, Christopher, Clare and Rachel; daughter, Carolyn (husband Kirk Knight) of Texas and children Pierce, Dane and Graham; son, Gregory (wife Joanna) and children Paige, Althea, Noah, Gabriel, Nicholas, Hannah, Garrett and Monica; and son, Paul (wife April) and children Kolin and Abbigail.

The family deeply appreciates the dedicated and compassionate care received from doctors, nurses, and staff of Cuyuna Medical Center and North Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Mark Solselt, and the entire North Memorial Hospice Team coming to our home. Also the excellent care given by Dr. Neil Jeddeloh of North Clinic in Osseo.

Due to an unforeseen circumstance, his obituary information wasn’t in the paper prior to the funeral.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, March 14, 2014, at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. Interment was at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery.
