The Maple Grove Arts Center, 7916 Main Street N. in Maple Grove, is looking for area artists to participate in the Ticked Off Art Show: Understanding Lyme Disease Through Art.

This is a juried visual art exhibit bringing together artworks by artists who have had Lyme disease, artists currently afflicted by the Lyme disease, and artists who know of someone with Lyme disease; and will for the first time nationally begin a visual and narrative dialogue about Lyme disease through artwork.  A curation of narratives by writers and non-artists will presented during this show through video and books.

Artists from Minnesota can participate in one of two categories — Artist over 18 or Youth 17 and younger. Entries must be created solely by the artist in the last five year and have not been previously exhibited at the Maple Grove Arts Center. Both 2D and 3D artwork will be allowed. No class-work, food-stuffs, hazardous materials or fragile work will be accepted.

Drop off artwork and entry form (contact the Art Center) can be dropped off Thursday, April 17 and Thursday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

This exhibit will include a “pop-up art exhibit” that will rotate throughout Minnesota in 2014 and 2015. The artworks will represent a variety of mediums including, sculpture, textile and clay and reflects the artwork of those experiencing the disease. There will be a children’s artwork display of those afflicted.

All proceeds will directly benefit the artists, and for those who have chosen, 20 percent will benefit the Minnesota Lyme Association’s physician scholarship fund. The fund helps physicians attend ILADS training and other Lyme-related educational events.
