Edwin Jr. Kothrade

Edwin Jr. Kothrade, age 83, of Corcoran, MN passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at North Memorial Medical Center surrounded by family.
He was born on November 12, 1930 to Edwin Sr and Eva (Wisdom) Kothrade at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
He was baptized and confirmed into faith at St. Johns Lutheran Church and attended school through 8th grade. His confirmation verse read, Blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it. Luke 11:28
At a young age, Ed was required to work on the family farm. At age 21 he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He served his military time state side only due to the fluke that he was issued wrong combat boots and rifle. By the time he returned to port, his troop ship had already sailed.
On May 29, 1954 Ed and Marlys (Stieg) were joined in holy marriage. They were blessed with nearly 60 years together and 5 children. Eds main love was farming. He also worked various jobs while maintaining the family farm.
He enjoyed woodturning, fishing, playing 500 and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona.
Preceded in death by his parents, sisters Cordella Koepp, Mary Ellen Berndt and brother Charles Kothrade, mother-in-law and father-in-law Gottfried and Frieda Stieg.
He is survived by his wife Marlys, children Paul (Ginger) of Golden Valley, Loren (Heidi) of St. Paul, Joy (Dick) Rau of Becker, John (Jane) of Hanover and Glen (Pam) of Hanover, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, sister Vivian, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Edwin Kothrade were held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, MN. Reverend Steven Briel and Reverend Matthew Johnson officiated.
A visitation was held Friday, March 28, 2014 at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Maple Grove.
Interment with military rites will be held at St. Johns Cemetery, Maple Grove, MN.
Casket Bearers were Jacob Kothrade, Ben Kothrade, Thomas Rau, Phillip Kothrade, Brian Kothrade and Garrett Kothrade.
