A recent city council meetings, Maple Grove and Plymouth have agreed to partner with each other to purchase an Oshkosk TPV Armored Vehicle.
According to Maple Grove staff, it has been the need of the police department to procure an armored vehicle for use in critical incidents necessitating ballistic protection.
“Over the course of several years, the police department has researched the available armored vehicle options and learned of the Oshkosk TPV, which due to its size and functionality offers a significant advantage over the other manufacturers’ products,” Maple Grove staff said.
The Maple Grove and Plymouth Emergency Response Units have worked jointly for more than 15 years. Due to the ongoing collaboration with the city of Plymouth Police Department, Maple Grove was requested by Plymouth Police to consider a cooperative purchase of an armored vehicle between the two jurisdictions.
Plymouth Police conducted the acquisition process and it will be purchased through the approved Houston-Galveston Area Purchasing Consortium. The total cost of the vehicle is $180,000 and will be divided equally between the two cities each paying $90,000. Maple Grove will pay for the vehicle using funds from the lawful gambling contribution fund.
The Plymouth City Council has approved the joint purchase contingent on the approval of the Maple Grove City Council. The Maple Grove Council approved the purchase at its Monday, March 3 meeting.
