FEB. 28 — The St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club 3rd Annual Rotary Art Auction is 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the St. Michael City Center, 11800 Town Center Drive. This family-friendly event will begin with an auction preview, appetizers and soft drinks served from 5-6 p.m. This year’s art auction will exclusively feature local artwork by STMA students and professional artists from the St. Michael-Albertville-Buffalo area. Proceeds will be used to enhance the arts in the local community through scholarships, ISD #885 arts and theatre programs and STMA Rotary projects. The auction will include approximately 75 pieces of matted unframed original artwork, including paintings, drawings and photography. A small number of pottery and jewelry pieces also will be up for bid. STMA student art is being submitted from every school in the school district, including each elementary school, both middle schools and the high school. Professional artwork includes the works of local artists Karen Berning, Keaton Van’t Hull, Gina Beaudry, K.T. Phanthavong, Louie Darang, and Al Stelton. Admission is free. Square foot gardening
MARCH 4 — Do you want the best soil possible for your garden? Participants will learn a way to generate quality weed free soil for their Square Foot Garden system. Mel Bartholomew, Founder of SFG, visited Minnesota last July generating lots of excitement for creating the most productive gardens ever. Organizers will share Mel Bartholomew’s 10 step Square Foot Garden system with handouts, pictures and opportunities to purchase the latest SFG books and local soil mix for gardens. This class is an introduction to Square Foot Gardening, which can be in ground, in a box or containers and that utilizes less water, less space and less work. Spring Book Sale
MARCH 22 — The Friends of the St. Michael-Albertville-Hanover Library will be hosting its annual Spring Book Sale Saturday, March 22, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the bag sale beginning at 1 p.m. The sale will take place in the City Council Chambers located at 11800 Town Center Dr. in St. Michael. Paperbacks will be on sale for fifty cents, trade paperbacks, hardcovers and DVDs $1; and bestseller items and specialty sets as marked. Donations are currently being accepted at the library during open hours. NOT accepting VHS tapes, textbooks, Reader’s Digest condensed books, magazines, or any books with mold or mildew damage. All proceeds will go to the Friends of the St. Michael-Albertville-Hanover Library to support programming, special equipment, and furnishings for the library.
