A 31-year-old male was arrested Friday, Feb. 21, after nearly crashing into a Rogers Police squad and then fleeing the scene, both in his vehicle and on foot.

Police reported that they attempted to stop a vehicle that almost sideswiped a squad car while passing illegally on the left in very poor, winter road conditions. The vehicle made a u-turn and failed to stop for police in spite of having both red lights and siren activated.

Police said the vehicle then went northbound on Main Street, running the red light at John Milless Drive and I-94 and then again at South Diamond Lake Road. The suspect crashed into multiple vehicles at the intersection, and fled on foot.

Matthew Engstrom, 31, was apprehended by multiple officers in the swamp between Maynard’s and South Diamond Lake Road. The driver’s license was revoked, and he had six felony warrants out for his arrest. He was transported to Hennepin County Jail and booked on charges for fleeing, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, driving after revocation and multiple warrants.
