Rockford cagers get shown what it takes to stand out

Rockford’s girls and boys basketball teams got a taste of what they hope to achieve when losing to upper tier programs last week.

The boys almost yielded 100 points in the 98-59 loss to No. 1 ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Friday. The girls were also shown how to achieve success in the 73-49 loss to Howard Lake/Waverly/Winsted.

It was the only game of the week for the girls, who are home to Kimball Friday, Feb. 21 and to Minneapolis Patrick Henry Monday, Feb. 24.

Players scoring in double figures were Jordan Weeding with 16 and Brianna Calder with 12.

Before facing BBE, Rockford took down Minneapolis Roosevelt 66-57. Brock Deering led the charge with 17 points, followed by Brendon Schumacher with 14 and James Monssen 13.

Deering scored 16 points against BBE, Schumacher hit for 13 and Joe Agre netted 11 points.

Rockford, which is 12-12 on the season, plays at Pierz Thursday, Feb. 20 to end the regular season.
