Given the No. 4 seed in the Section 2A boys hockey tournament, Delano-Rockford opens play against Blake at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at Parade Ice Garden near downtown Minneapolis.
The winner will face No. 1 seed Breck, 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25. The title game is 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27.
Delano-Rockford finished the regular season by going 2-1 with a 3-2 victory over Hutchinson, a 4-1 loss to St. Cloud Cathedral and a 6-1 triumph against Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Saturday. The team is 14-10-1 overall.
In all three games the local team had the edge in shots on goal, including against Cathedral, 38-28. The margin was 43-29 against Hutchinson and 47-11 against L/DC.
One of the reasons for increase offensive pressure is the return of the injured players. Grant Prinsen, for example, scored the lone goal against SCC. Despite playing in only seven of the team’s 25 games, the senior is tied for third in points at 19 with six goals and 13 assists. Brady Miller has seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in 25 games.
The points leader is Ben Meyers with 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points in 25 games. Justin Oja, who played in 17 games because of injury, is second with 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points.
Miller netted two goals against Hutchinson and Oja had the other. Brett Norling stopped 27 shots in goal. Against L/DC, Oja and Meyers both scored twice, with other goals by Miller and Dan Keranen. Goalie Tyler Rizzardi made 10 saves.
