The Osseo ski team had a good day of racing at the Northwest Suburban Conference Meet at Wirth Park Wednesday, Jan. 29.
The boys’ team placed third with 506 points, behind Armstrong 519 and winner Andover 521. Osseo was behind after the freestyle race, but came back strong in the classic race picking up 17 points but falling short for the team title.
Osseo had five all-conference skiers: Adam Berkowitz led the team with an outstanding seventh-place pursuit finish. Berkowtiz was 10th after the freestyle race and climbed to seventh with the fourth best classic race of the day.
Mitchell Dehmer had a great freestyle race placing eighth, followed with a solid classic race (14th) finishing ninth overall.
David Jeydnak had his best races ever placing 13th in pursuit, with 17th in the freestyle race with an outstanding ninth in the classic race. Tanner Wetzel was 20th after the freestyle race and climbed to 16th in pursuit with a great 11th place finish in the classic race. Jason Schulte finished 22nd in the pursuit after taking 21st in freestyle and 27th in the classic. Luc Robicaud completed the team score and finishing 33rd in the pursuit race, 41st in freestyle and his best race of the year in classic placing 29th. This earned Robicaud honorable mention NWSC all conference honors.
Other skiers for Osseo in the NWSC meet were: Carter Eich 39th in pursuit, 39th in both freestyle and classic. Sam Carroll 58th in pursuit, 61st freestyle, 57th classic. Alex Naughton 76th, 79th freestyle, 66th classic. Matt Berg 77th pursuit, 70th freestyle, 78th classic.
“The boys had great classic races. Moving up 17 places at the conference meet is tough to do. They really went after it,” said coach Brad Rosch.
The girls’ team was seventh in the NWSC meet. Leading the way was Sarah Bezdicek’s second-place pursuit finish. Bezdicek was third in the freestyle race and second in the classic race leading to her second-place all-conference finish.
Kaitlyn Anderson was 32nd in pursuit, with 38th in freestyle,29th in classic for all-conference honorable mention. Jenny Schoenrock placed 42nd in pursuit, 50th in freestyle, and 41st in classic. Laura Soderstrom was 51st in pursuit, 58th in freestyle and 44th in classic. Sidney Polich was 53rd, 49th freestyle, 64th classic. Mariah Wetzel was 54th in pursuit, 59th freestyle, 47th classic.
Other Osseo skiers representing Osseo in the meet were: Sammy Strootman 66th pursuit, 71st freestyle, 61st classic, Maren Strootman 67th pursuit, 72nd freestyle, 59th classic. Lauren Durdin 73rd pursuit, 76th freestyle, 70th classic, Michelle Perry 80th, 73rd freestyle, 82nd classic.
“For six of the girls this was the first time they did two races in one day,” Rosch said. “Eight of 10 girls moved up in the second race, which was good to see.”
Next up for the Orioles was the Section 5 meet at Wirth Park Wednesday, Feb 5.
