Highlights from some of the Osseo, Maple Grove high teams:



Boys’ Hockey

Armstrong exploded for five third period goals to overtake Osseo 6-4 Jan. 30. The Orioles led 2-1 going into the third on goals by Zach Heiser and Cameron Perna but they were outscored 5-2 by the Falcons in the final period. Brendan Hoben and Seth Younkers scored the other two Osseo goals.

Osseo then lost to Anoka 4-0 Saturday, Feb. 1. The Orioles were outshot 43-20. Connor Dahlberg made 39 saves.

Osseo next visits Champlin Park Friday, Feb. 7 and travels to Maple Grove Saturday, Feb. 8.

Swim and Dive

The Orioles lost a very close meet to the Bengals 92 to 93 in their final home meet of the season Jan. 30.

Osseo took second place in the 200 medley relay (Jonah Smith, Kyle Pederson, Jared Nelson, Brad Rasmussen), second place in the 200 free relay (Jake Rear, Dylan Croonquist, Tim Van Laarhoven, Nolan Vander Ploeg) and first place in the 400 free relay (Van Laarhoven, Rear, Croonquist, Vander Ploeg).

In individual events:

Vander Ploeg took first in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Van Laarhoven took first in the 200 individual medley and second in the 100 freestyle, Ben Gerber took third in the 100 backstroke, Isaac Lessard took third in the 100 breaststroke, Kyle Pederson took first in the 100 breaststroke, Brad Rasmussen took third in the 100 freestyle, Jonah Smith took first in the 100 backstroke, Croonquist took second in the 50 freestyle, Josh Deruyter took second in the 200 individual medley, Rear took third in the 50 freestyle and 2nd in the 100 butterfly, Joseph Nelson took third in the 100 butterfly.

The Maple Grove dance team had a strong showing at the section tournament Feb. 1. The jazz team advances to the state dance team tournament Feb. 14 at Target Center.

Boys’ Basketball

Maple Grove edged Centennial 48-45 Jan. 31 and lost to Hopkins 80-56 Feb. 1.

Matt Lindgren scored 17 points and Brad Davison had 13 in the win over Centennial.

The Crimson trailed Hopkins just 35-34 at halftime but the Royals exploded with a 45-point second half and broke the game open. Tywhon Pickford led MG with 13 points and Reed Nikko added 10.

The Crimson next visit Osseo Friday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m.


Maple Grove beat Blaine/Andover 135.5 to 134.475 Jan. 30. Allie Korbel led the Crimson with three first places.
