Former Maple Grove High School student Dominique D.J. Nolff died Saturday, Feb. 1 from an injury suffered in a shooting near Michigan State University-East Langing campus

The shooting took place around 8:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at an off-campus apartment. Nolff, a sophomore at Michigan State University, died early Saturday morning.

Nolff attended Maple Grove High School and was a member of the Crimson basketball and football programs in the 2010 season.

“He was a great kid,” Crimson head basketball coach Nick Schroeder said. “He was a junior varsity player for us. He moved to Michigan for his senior year.”

Nolff attended Thornapple Kellogg High School in Middleville, Mich. He graduated in 2012.

Joey Eng, a Maple High graduate who knew Nolff well and played basketball with Nolff at Maple Grove, said in an interview with WWJ-TV of Detroit: “They took away a great person from everybody, his mom, his brother, everybody who has ever known him – he is a person that will be greatly missed.”
