Maple Grove resident dies in snowmobile crash

Maple Grove resident Jared Wallenfelsz, 22, died from the result of a snowmobile crash Saturday, Jan. 18, in Todd County in north-central Minnesota.

According to reports authorities from the Todd County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a missing man at 11:23 a.m. Jan. 18.

Reports add he was last seen driving a snowmobile from his family’s cabin on Long Lake around 1:30 a.m. that morning.

Deputies patrolled the area with snowmobiles and found Wallenfelsz and his crashed snowmobile around 12:45 p.m. on a wooded lot on the northwest side of Long Lake.

Authorities believe poor visibility from weather, alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash.

The case remains under investigation.

Wallenfelsz’s obituary states he passed away just prior to his 23rd birthday. He is survived by his parents John and Lisa, brother Alex, grandparents, relatives and friends.

His obituary also said, “Jared was a joy to everyone he knew. He was personable, funny, smart and loved sports.”
