After being ignored the entire season in polls, the Maple Grove girls’ hockey team finally cracked a state poll, coming in at No. 20 in the Jan. 22 Let’s Play Hockey ranking. Blaine, a team the Crimson have tied and beaten, is ranked eighth.

The Crimson celebrated by beating Armstrong 5-1 and winning 6-0 at Anoka.

Abby Larson scored twice, Taylor Wendt, Hailey Herdine and Claire McLean each netted a goal in MG’s 5-1 win at Armstrong Jan. 23. Katie Josephson had two assists and Coco Francis made 21 saves for the win

Francis stopped all 26 shots, Olivia Rosenow and Taylor Wendt had two goals and Samantha Boonstra had a goal and two assists to lead MG to a 6-0 win at Anoka Saturday, Jan. 24. McLean also netted one goal.

The Crimson missed a chance to challenge a top-ranked team when their Jan. 23 game against No. 2 Benilde-St. Margaret was postponed because of weather. The Crimson, who have won seven games in a row to improve to 14-5-2, will be tested when they host No. 4 Hopkins Jan. 30 and close the regular season by entertaining Cooper Feb. 1.
