Girls hockey picks up the scoring tempo as playoffs near

The area girls hockey team Bison exploded for eight en-route to an 8-1 victory over Mississippi 8 Conference rival Chisago Lakes last week.

Scoring three straight goals in the first period were Ashley Effertz, Lindsay Roethke and Allison Roethke, who hit the net with three seconds in the period.

After Chisago Lakes scored early in the second period, the Bison picked up the tempo scoring four unanswered goals in the last 12 minutes of the period.

The goals were scored by Rylan Bistodeau, Taylor Thompson, Abby Halluska and Lindsay Roethke. The final goal was scored by Thompson. Eighth grade goalie Karly Schmidt relieved started Kendra Carlson, who stopped 12 of 13 shots through the first two periods, and had seven saves.

The win kept the Bison undefeated in the M8 conference with one conference game remaining.

Also last week the Bison lost 3-2 to No. 7-ranked Wayzata. The Bison scored first when defender Paige Blizil netted her first varsity goal. Madi Jewell scored the other goal.

The Bison travel to play Chaska/Chanhassen Friday, Jan. 31 before ending the regular season at home in Buffalo arena, 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 against No. 11-ranked Dodge County.

BOYS HOCKEY

The Delano-Rockford boys hockey team lost 4-1 to Holy Family Catholic last week. The team plays at Hutchinson Thursday, Jan. 30, is home to Orono 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 and is at Mound-Westonka Thursday, Feb. 6.
