Jake Johnson dominated the second half and notched his 1,000th point as first-place St. Francis routed the Rogers Royals 86-63 on Saturday evening in St. Francis.

Johnson, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, scored 27 points, 21 of them in the second half.

The Fighting Saints are 7-0 in the Mississippi 8 and 14-3 overall.

Sophomore forward Steffan Mosoke led Rogers with 19 points. Cole Murray was next with 10 points for the Royals (2-4 conference, 6-10 overall).

In earlier action, missed chances in the last 20 seconds left Rogers with a 68-65 loss to Big Lake Tuesday, Jan. 21, at home.

The Royals, down 66-65, had the ball but missed on two good looks at the basket. They had to foul, and Eric Chuba sank two free shots for the Hornets with 5.8 seconds left. Rogers guard Allen Wilson’s 3-pointer at the horn went in and out.

Sam Dokkebakken scored 16 points, Chuba 14 and Michael Doperalski 12 for Big Lake (3-3 conference, 11-5 overall)

Sophomore guard Coby Stow led Rogers with 22 points off the bench. Cole Murray notched 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Wilson had 13 points.

The Royals were just 9-for-20 on free shots, including 2-for-8 in the second half.

Royal point guard Gunnar Bloom missed the game with the flu.

Rogers was to play at St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday.
