When winter stretches into February, it’s not uncommon to get a little restless and fret about how long it is until summer.

A tried and true remedy offered by mothers for decades still does the trick: “Get dressed, go outside and run around a little. The exercise will do you good.”

The Hamel Lions, for the 11th year running, will again offer that opportunity.

The club is sponsoring a 5K “Freeze Your Buns Run” in conjunction with its annual pancake breakfast at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Hamel Community Center, 3200 Mill St.  Registration prior to Jan. 24 is $25 and includes the run, a pancake breakfast and T-shirt.  On the day of the event, registration will be $30.

This is a good venue for serious runners, since times and placements are recorded, but it’s also an event that’s fun for anyone or any group that wants to spend a brisk Minnesota morning together. All ages and pets are encouraged to attend.

Proceeds are used to assist families with needs within the community.
