The city of Independence is looking for anyone with experience in planning, painting, advertising, making appointments, handing out flyers, and just plain organizing volunteers. The goal is to create the best Heritage Fest that Independence has had to date, said City Administrator Toni Hirsch.
The planning committee will meet for the first time at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5 in the conference room at Independence City Hall, 1920 County Road 90. To volunteer, call City Hall at 763-479-0527. People can volunteer, even if they cannot attend the first meeting. The committee will meet again in a few weeks, Hirsch said.
“We need your ideas, your creativity, your talents,” she said. “We need you.”
Heritage Fest is Independence’s annual community celebration, held in the fall at Pioneer Creek Park. Last year Independence brought in a unique attraction — pig races, with area citizens buying chances to sponsor a pig. Festivities also included live music, an outdoor dance, a pig roast and much more.
