It was six-up and six-down for the Rogers wrestlers as they cruised in back-to-back dual-meet quadrangulars Thursday and Friday, Jan. 9 and 10.
The Royals (9-4) defeated Buffalo 39-28, Fridley 61-12 and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 45-21 on Friday evening in Buffalo.
“To go 6-0 in two days is a pretty good accomplishment. We couldn’t have asked for a better two days,” reflected coach Chris Donnay, adding that three section wins and one conference win (Buffalo) were among them.
“We’re really learning how to wrestle as a team right now, not as individuals. Everyone we put out there gave it their all for six minutes. We looked a little worn down by that third match but we still wrestled well.”
On Thursday at Spring Lake Park, Rogers beat Irondale 50-12, Mounds View 44-22 and Spring Lake Park 55-22.
Going 3-0 at Buffalo were Philip Anderson, Cruz Martinez, and Jordan Lemcke. Bret Wilson and Andrew Piehl were 2-0 and sat out the HLWW match. In the two days, Anderson and Larson were 6-0, Wilson 5-0 and Andrew Piehl 4-0.
The Royals busy three-day stretch continues Saturday as they participate in the Zimmerman Invitational, although some regulars will sit this one out, Donnay said.
