Highlights from some of the Osseo, Maple Grove high teams:



Girls’ Hockey

North Metro lost to Centennial 6-0 last week. Leah Younkers is the team’s top scorer and Hannah Paulson has been solid in goal. The Stars next visit Maple Grove Saturday, Jan. 18.


Girls’ Basketball

The Orioles raced out to a 20-point first half lead, then held the Cardinals to 10 second half points to earn the 80-32 victory Jan. 9. Senior Ayo Porte led the Orioles with 17 points and eight rebounds. Kiara Russell, Madi Malone and Azaria Reed contributed 15, 14 and 12 points, respectively to help pace the Osseo offensive attack. Osseo next visits Anoka Friday, Jan. 17.


Boys’ Hockey

Mason Hautala scored 6 minutes into overtime to lift Osseo to a 3-2 win over Coon Rapids Jan. 9. A. J. Lyons had a goal and two assists, Jacob Lange had one goal and Hautala scored the winning goal. Connor Dahlberg got the win in the net with 27 saves.

The Orioles fell to Elk River 6-1 Jan. 11. The Orioles were outshot 39-16 but Dahlberg kept it close. The score was tied 0-0 after one period and 2-1 after two periods. Elk River took control after that and won going away. Rudy Alexander scored Osseo’s lone goal.

Osseo next visits Andover Thursday, Jan. 16 before visiting Coon Rapids Saturday, Jan. 18 .

Maple Grove 

Girls’ Hockey

The Crimson improved their conference record to 7-2-2 with a 4-1 win over Champlin Park Jan. 11. They outshot the Rebels 43-14. Abby Larson had a goal and an assist, Paige Naasko, Katie Josephson and Bailey Wendt each netted one goal and Summer Thiebodeau had two assists.

Maple Grove next hosts North Metro Saturday, Jan. 18.

Boys’ Hockey

Maple Grove opened the new year with a 6-0 win over Rogers Jan. 4. Nate Erickson, Josh Passolt, Sam Valerius, Josh Wente, Matt Vogl and Joe Norenberg, each scored one goal and Brady Goodman made 27 saves to get the win.

Cal McKenney made 37 saves but his effort was not enough in the 3-2 loss to Andover Jan. 7. Passolt and Sam Franta were the goal scorers.

Maple Grove got back in the win column with a 5-1 win over Champlin Park Saturday, Jan. 11. Norenberg scored two goals and Passolt, Vogl and Valerius each netted one. Franta had three assists and Goodman made 26 saves to get the win in goal.

The Crimson next host Duluth East Saturday, Jan. 18.

Maple Grove Gymnastics

The Crimson lost to Park Center 127.875-126.9 Jan. 9.

Floor: 2. Young 8.575, 3. Kara 8.25, 6. Ducosin 7.875
