Katie Braiedy earned the hat trick as the Rogers Royals captured the consolation title of the Armstrong tournament, and avenged an earlier loss, by defeating Mahtomedi 5-4 on Saturday at New Hope Arena.

Braiedy’s third goal was the game-winner with seven minutes left. Gabby Billing notched a goal and two assists. Maddy Lehn had the other goal. Cassi Conrad and Olivia Olson each made one assist. Goalie Michelle Klimstra made 26 saves.

The Royals (8-6-1) had lost to Mahtomedi (8-10-1) by 3-1 on Nov. 12.

After losing to Anoka 3-2 in the first round of the Armstrong tournament, the Royals beat Simley 4-2 in the consolation semifinals Friday. Lehn knocked in two goals, and Billing and Braeidy one each, while backup goalie Emily Bjorgan got the win with 25  saves.

Braiedy and Billing each made the all-tournament team.
