Area cities, schools land Youth Sports grants

The Hennepin County Board has approved $1.85 million in Youth Sports grants for 2014 for 14 facility and 46 small equipment and asset projects. Rockford Area Schools and the cities of Loretto and Corcoran are among the successful grant applicants.

The Hennepin Youth Sports Program awards capital grants to build, repair, renovate or expand youth sports facilities in Hennepin County.

Rockford Area Schools (School District 883) was awarded $110,000 for a new baseball field west of Corcoran Community Park.

The city of Loretto was awarded $9,485 for an infield drag attachment and portable batting cage at Loretto Athletic Park. Loretto also will receive a $1,550 grant for baseball pitching screens.

The city of Corcoran will receive a $10,000 grant for a turf mower to be used at Corcoran Community Park.

An additional $125,000 in Hennepin Youth Sports Grants will be made available for a second round of 2014 equipment grants. For more information, or to see a map and full listing of projects receiving grants, visit www.hennepin.us/youthsports.
