Osseo junior Carson Brolsma placed third at 145 pounds, advancing to the fourth round of the championship bracket with a bye, a fall and major decision over (2A-4th rated) Jacob Steinbauer of Waconia, before dropping a three-point decision in the quarter-finals to Scott West senior Zach Siegle (2A-#2).  Siegle, a two-time state place-winner, went on to win the bracket.  Brolsma bounced back from his first set-back of the season to qualify for the medal rounds with a fall at 2:35 over Samuel Vance of Chaska-Chanhassen and a 10-3 decision over Alec Engler of Minnesota (1A-#7).  In the wrestle-back semis, Brolsma earned a 9-4 decision over (sixth-rated-3A) Ben Donally of Woodbury 9-4 and North Dakota’s top-rated Walker Carr of Carrington 7-0 for bronze medalist honors.

Mitchell Lewison finished in the top 12 at 106, just one win shy of the award podium.  Lewison opened with a bye before winning three of five matches, including a decision and two falls, highlighted by a pin over Owatonna’s 6th rated Peyton Robb to advance to within one victory of placing in the top 8.  Brolsma is now 24-1 and Lewison 15-6 on the season.

“This tournament is about as tough as it gets. Carson’s weight class alone featured four state titles. A handful of our guys really stepped up to the challenge,” said fifth-year Osseo head coach Alan Wiley.

The Orioles will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Brooklyn Center Invitational and will host Elk River on Osseo Youth night, Wednesday, Jan. 8.
