Basketball: Royal boys lose to Centennial 78-63

The Rogers Royals are 0-2 at the Tartan tournament after losing to Centennial 78-63 on Saturday, Dec. 28, in Oakdale.

The Royals (3-6), who lost to Forest Lake 79-76 on Friday, were to play Duluth East Monday for seventh place.

Cole Murray sank 16 points and Allen Wilson and Lance Lendl 11 each for the Royals, who struggled from the field (20-for-56) but were 18-for-22 on free shots.

In earlier action, despite a 31-point performance by Cole Murray, the Rogers Royals lost to the Forest Lake Rangers 79-76 on Friday at the Tartan Holiday Tournament.

Murray, 6-9 junior center, also snagged 15 rebounds. Allen Wilson added 13 points and Sawyer Thompson 11.

Rogers (3-4) led by as much as eight in the second half but the Rangers (4-5) overtook them behind Connor Knutson, who scored 16 points in the second half. The Royals had problems with turnovers as the Rangers rallied. A 3-pointer to tie a the buzzer went in and out.
