Helping Hands Food Shelf hours
DEC. 12 — Delano Helping Hands Food Shelf will be open for standard service from from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12. Helping Hands will be closed on Dec. 19 and Dec. 26. In order to continue to meet demands of monthly food shelf usage, Helping Hands will not provide special Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets. Helping Hands encourages groups to hold food drives throughout the year and inform the food shelf of the effort. Cash donations allow the food shelf to purchase food from Second Harvest Food Bank at a much lower cost per pound than the average consumer can. Helping Hands is located in the basement of the Delano Community Education Building on Elm Avenue at Second Street in Delano. Corcoran taxation hearing
DEC. 12 — Corcoran residents are invited to attend the public hearing of the City of Corcoran to express their opinions on the budget and on the proposed amount of 2013 property taxes. The hearing will be Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. Corcoran City Hall, 8200 County Rd. 116. If the discussion of the budget cannot be completed, a time and place for continuing the discussion will be announced at the hearing. The City Council will consider approving the 2014 City Budget and Property Tax Levy Dec. 23.

Rockford Holiday Expo
DEC. 14 —If you need help finding holiday gifts, visit the Rockford Holiday Expo on Saturday, Dec. 14, fro 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rockford Community Center (RCC). Over 20 local businesses and crafters will be at the 2013 Rockford Holiday Expo with products ranging from food items, designer bags, knitted crafts, candles, makeup and body care items, environmentally safe cleaning products, jewelry, clothing and more. Veggie Tales Christmas Show
DEC. 15 — Children and youth will present “The Incredible Gigantic Humongous Veggie Tales Christmas Show” at 10:15 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 15 at Maple Plain Community Church, 1815 Budd Ave. N., Maple Plain. DEC. 15 — Delano United Methodist Church, 3310 County Line Road SE, will present its annual Christmas Cantata at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15. The church invites the public to this special presentation of the Christmas story, told through song and spoken word. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served afterwards.
DEC. 16 — The Rockford Lions meet monthly on the second and third Mondays, monthly, at 7 p.m. in the Lions Building at Riverside Park. Stop in and check out this fun and growing club. Delano blood drive
DEC. 16 — A blood drive for the American Red Cross will take place from 1 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16 at the Delano American Legion, located on Bridge Avenue at Highway 12. Blood is needed for people with blood disorders, cancer patients, transplant recipients, trauma victims, and many others.
